PKL supplied a Mini kitchen, a preparation kitchen, a cold room and a dry store during a kitchen refurbishment at the Greenway Hotel in Cheltenham, part of the Eden Hotel Collection. The kitchen was used to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as cream teas and sandwiches throughout the day, for the hotel’s 21 bedrooms and visitors to its popular spa.
The four star hotel needed the temporary kitchen not only to be practical but also to be unobtrusive, as the 500 year old hotel is renowned for its gardens and facade. PKL was recommended to Eden by their kitchen designers, who felt the company would have the expertise and experience to ensure a safe and simple installation.
A small space adjacent to the old kitchen and behind a well-established hedge, was chosen to locate the temporary facility although the hotel was concerned it would be too difficult to install it effectively. After a site survey, PKL’s project support department, design department and fleet operations team created a detailed installation plan, which was carried out on April 1. The units were craned into place with no hitches into the tight space under the watchful eye of one of PKL’s team of experienced project managers.
Despite being placed at the front of the building, the kitchen units are largely invisible to the hotel’s customers when they first arrive, a vital consideration for a hotel which is proud of both its facade and beautiful surrounding gardens.
When the kitchen installation faced a small delay Eden simply contacted PKL and asked to extend the hire. The extension was agreed in a matter of hours, guaranteeing food production at the hotel until all renovation and installation work was completed.
