PKL’s A-Z of 2016: Part 1

2016 has been such a busy, exciting year for us, that it’s impossible to recap everything that’s happened. Instead, we’ve put together an A-Z list, giving just a few of the year’s highlights. Here’s Part 1!

A is for… AFO Conference

Having become members of the AFO (Association of Festival Organisers) earlier this year, we attended the AFO Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon in November. This was a great weekend where we had an exhibition stand and also had the opportunity to attend several of the talks and meet other members of the association and hear about the wide range of outdoor events they’re involved in.

B is for… Beer Festival

Earlier this year we worked with CAMRA at the Great British Beer Festival, the organisation’s flagship showcase for the brewing industry. We used our Mobile Canopies, which enabled us to install catering equipment in the existing building, and supplied glasswashers for the major operation to clean all the used pint glasses!

C is for… Ceroffee Coffee Roaster

Earlier this year, our U-Select division secured exclusive UK and Ireland distribution rights for the Ceroffee Coffee Roaster. This industry-leading tabletop commercial roaster is designed to be used on-site in businesses of all sizes, and features a simple touchscreen interface which guarantees great roasting results for even the more inexperienced user.

D is for… Donations

We’ve held a number of charity events and collections this year, including donating to Crisis at Christmas instead of exchanging staff Christmas cards, raising money for the Poppy Appeal and Children in Need, and holding the Great PKL Bake Off and cake sale which raised over £160 for Macmillan.

E is for… Emergency Hires

We’ve undertaken a number of emergency hires this year due to fires, floods and similar disasters that have resulted in kitchen closures. We offer free, bespoke kitchen contingency plans to help you prepare for kitchen emergencies – just answer a few quick questions about your kitchen and receive a free, customised contingency plan.

F is for… Festival Supplier Awards

We’re delighted to have been shortlisted in the Best Festival Support Service category at the Festival Supplier Awards 2017! We were shortlisted in the 2016 awards back in January too for our work on Wilderness Festival, and our work at Goodwood has secured our nomination again for the 2017 awards!

G is for… Goodwood

This year we’ve been busy supplying over 800 items of catering equipment to over 120 different locations at four Goodwood festivals! We had a dedicated project manager on site for each event and helped the new caterer keep things running smoothly. As well as supplying our e-Handover packs to give each kitchen area all the information they need on a handy tablet, we also had up to five catering engineers based on site to offer support for the duration of each event.

H is for… Hotelympia

We had a brilliant time exhibiting at Hotelympia in London in March. We took along a Space Station and Field Kitchen so visitors to our stand could get a better feel for our range of temporary and permanent kitchen solutions. They were very popular and drew a lot of interest from visitors curious to see them in the flesh. Our U-Select division also showcased their range of flexible catering equipment procurement options, which were a big hit with businesses of all sizes.

I is for… Information Centre

This year saw the development and installation of our brand new information centre – a new suite of systems for managing and monitoring different aspects of the business, all displayed on a selection of large, interactive screens. These screens provide an instant snapshot of the business, making it even easier to monitor our kitchen fleet utilisation, transport allocation and technical support, as well as a range of useful business metrics.
