Emergency Kitchen After Fire at Cottesmore Golf Club

Johnny Porter and his wife Louisa, managers of the Cottesmore Golf and Country Club, were enjoying 2018 – they had just celebrated their most successful week of the year following a renovation project on their 21 hotel rooms.

Then the unthinkable happened.

“A small fire started in the hotel,” said Johnny, “and although we did our best to fight it, it took hold rapidly and when the fire brigade arrived it was out of control. It burned for more than 7 hours and more than half the buildings were completely destroyed.”

The club’s function, hotel and sports club business stopped instantly, but the health spa and golf operations could continue if they could find a home for them. Installing the Health Spa in one of the club’s self catering lodges solved one problem, but how could they look after their members?

Contacting PKL, the club’s head chef Shaun Dickens-Shone was delighted to receive a quote within 48 hours.

“Within a day of receiving the quote there was a PKL salesperson and a member of the technical team here to measure up and check out what we needed. We had a kitchen in place just three days after ordering and the full clubhouse was in four weeks later.”

The kitchen contained all Shaun needed to offer a full and attractive menu for club members, with a six burner, fryer, hotcupboard and warewashing facilities.

The club knew that the rebuild process would take more than 18 months, so wanted to invest in the look of the temporary clubhouse. A wood effect vinyl wrap was added, with the club’s branding, to create a look that better reflected the style and quality of the facilities on offer.

“Ultimately this facility has allowed us to continue and look after our club members,” said Johnny. “This all comes down to maintaining our business with high quality facilities that our members love using. We’re delighted with the facility and the service we’ve received from PKL.”
