Emergency Kitchen After Fire at The Croft Preparatory School

The Croft Preparatory School, situated on stunning grounds on the outskirts of Stratford-upon-Avon, is a co-educational independent school for children aged 3-11 years.

The Croft School has a philosophy of home grown, home cooked food, some of which is produced on the school grounds. They like to get the children to see where their food is grown, helping to give them a deeper understanding of what they eat.

Director of the school, Barney Thornton, got the phone call at 9pm one evening that everyone dreads to receive – the fire brigade were at their school putting out the fire in their kitchen. Thankfully, they managed to put the fire out before it caused any significant, structural damage.

“Walking into an area that I’ve walked into everyday for 20 years, and seeing it burnt, was a very disturbing experience”.

Thankfully, with a quick phone call to PKL and speaking with sales team member John Robinson, they were able to feed the children within two weeks of the incident.

“John Robinson was exactly what we required. He told us everything that we could do in the time scale and spoke to Serena about how they could get the kitchen up and running as quickly as possible”.

PKL created a temporary kitchen unit including a Tom Thumb Dishwash Unit, Preparation Kitchen and a Mini Production Kitchen. This allowed the school to carry on producing lunches for the children, and three days in to having the kitchen, they all had a lovely hot meal!

Serena Edwards, the schools Catering Manager, was extremely pleased at how quickly the turnaround was. “The first week we were getting it authorised by the insurance, and the second week we were getting it planned. It came in on the Tuesday and was handed over by the Friday!”.
