Sydney Athletes Village: Temporary Kitchen & Dining Facility Supplied by PKL

PKL supplied a  large scale temporary kitchen and dining facility for the Athletes Village at the Sydney Summer Games, capable of providing up to 50,000 meals per day. It was used to provide for the daily needs of 10,300 athletes, 5,000 team officials and over 6,000 staff – all living and working at the site in Sydney

At the end of the Games, the complete kitchen was dismantled and transported back to the UK. The kitchen catered for a range of different nutritional and menu requirements of competitors from over 200 nations – 24 hours a day.

PKL Group were selected because of their proven track record of delivering temporary catering facilities for major sporting events while major factor was also the use of a unique containerised island kitchen canopy system developed for The British Army in Kosovo.

The scope of our project management included the complete design and build of the kitchen, plus fitout of the dining hall foodservice and warewash equipment. PKL was also responsible for the design and installation of all the gas, electrical, water and drainage services, as well as the refrigeration and air handling systems.

The entire kitchen was built to stringent Australian construction and food hygiene standards which meant constant liaison was required with all the relevant Australian statutory bodies. From arrival on site, to handover of the 2,000 sqm kitchen, was only 120 days
