Dry Store 6.2m: Portable Dry Storage Unit Hire

Secure Ambient Storage That Links Straight Into Your Kitchen

The 6.2m Dry Store is a secure, hygienic ambient storage unit measuring 6.2m by 2.9m. It is supplied with four tier food safe racking as standard and requires only a 63amp single phase electrical supply, so it can be brought into service quickly once it is sited. The unit links directly to a temporary kitchen complex or to a permanent building, which means goods move between storage and production under cover.

PKL supplies a temporary dry store range in two sizes. The 6.2m unit is the larger of the two and is specified where a kitchen has lost its own store, where a refurbishment has taken the existing storeroom out of use, or where deliveries have to be consolidated into fewer, larger drops.

When a Portable Dry Store Is Specified

Three situations account for most dry store rentals. The first is a refurbishment: when a kitchen is rebuilt, the store is very often the room that goes first, and a temporary kitchen without ambient storage cannot hold more than a day of stock. The second is seasonal demand, where a site that normally holds a week of dry goods needs to hold considerably more for a defined period. The third is a change in delivery pattern, where reducing the number of deliveries requires somewhere to put the additional volume.

Because the unit is weathertight and lockable, it also allows stock to be held outside the main building envelope without exposing it to pests, damp or temperature swing. Where chilled or frozen storage is needed alongside the ambient store, a portable coldroom is specified next to it and the two are sited together.

Delivery, Siting and Support

The dry store is delivered by lorry. Where vehicle access to the position you have chosen is restricted, PKL can arrange a crane lift instead. A level hard standing surface is preferred, and where the ground is not level the unit is levelled on installation using its own levelling facilities. Steps or ramps can be supplied where access to the door needs them.

There is no minimum hire period, so the unit can be held for the length of a refurbishment programme or for a single peak season. Once the unit is in place it is covered by PKL’s 24 hour technical support line, and after every hire the unit is cleaned, tested and re commissioned before it goes out again.

Specifying Your Dry Store

To size a dry store against your stockholding, request a quote or call the team on 01242 663000. It helps to know how long you need the unit, whether it will be linked to a kitchen or sited on its own, and whether you also need chilled or frozen capacity.

5 Things to Consider When Hiring This Kitchen

Our kitchens are delivered on the back of a lorry, so we will need sufficient access for our vehicles to get in and site your unit. If your proposed location does not have sufficient access for a vehicle, we can organise for a crane to lift it into place. The kitchen where possible should also be located on a level hard-standing surface, although we can use the leveling facilities on the kitchen if this is not an option.

Do you have services onsite to run the kitchen? Typically you will need a single-phase electricity supply to connect the kitchen, and also gas to run the catering equipment (if you wish you use gas equipment within the kitchen – electric equipment is also an option). You will also need to consider water and waste supplies.

If you have no supplies on-site or just require some of the above, we can help you with this. We can either put you in contact with water and waste, gas supply and generator companies, or organise it all for you as part of your hire.

Have you considered whether you will need additional steps and ramps to access the kitchen? If you do, this is something that we are able to provide so please let us know and we’ll go through your options with you.

While there is no minimum hire period for our kitchens, bear in mind that we deliver the kitchen to you (rather than being a static location that you can use by the hour), and we will need to unload, connect and commission it before we hand it over, and then collect it again afterwards.

We are often asked whether or not our temporary kitchen units can be located outside or on the driveway of a domestic property. Please note that our units are commercial kitchens. If you are considering putting one outside your house, then you will need to have the relevant industrial power supplies in place, and if used in a residential area, planning permission may be required as well (this is rarely required for use in a non-residential area).
