Supporting Food for Life Conference 2020 with Film about ‘Inspirational’ Schools

We supported national charity the Soil Association at its Food for Life National Conference with a new film last week.

A short teaser of the film “Food for Life: Building the Future of School Meals” was revealed at the event on February 13 2020. The National Conference focused on the Nation’s ongoing crises surrounding childhood health and food systems, as well as discussing how local and national food strategy and public procurement can radically alter the landscape for sustainable, healthy diets.

Speakers at the event included Henry Dimbleby – co-founder of the Leon restaurant chain and co-writer of the influential School Food Plan in 2013 – and broadcaster and campaigner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, along with Food for Life co-founder Jeanette Orrey and Jo Lewis, Policy & Strategy Director at the Soil Association.

The conference encouraged new thinking about school food and collected delegates’ thoughts, views and ideas via a series of interactive votes.

The film has been produced as part of a new series called School Food Focus, which will examine the state of British school food and how dedicated professionals, charities and support groups are fighting for better school food. The teaser featured interview snippets from a number of schools who have used the Food for Life ethos to improve their school meals.

PKL Sales Director Karen Rumsey said: “We are delighted to support the Soil Association and Food for Life with this film, which shows the marvellous work FFL has done in the last decade and a half, and how they plan to continue the fight for good school meals in the future. The organisation is doing fantastic work up and down the country and it was exciting to work with them on this film. The schools we visited were inspirational.”

Ian Nutt, Head of Development at the Soil Association and Food for Life said: “The conference was highly successful and highlighted key issues in providing children’s food in the UK today. We were delighted to work with PKL on the film. It reflects how vital the work being done around the country to improve children’s food is. It was a great way to finish the conference, sending delegates away with an inspirational message about changing children’s food for the better and turning the UK into a world leader in children’s food.”

“Food for Life: Building the Future of School Meals” will be released later this year with other films and blogs examining the state of the UK’s school meals provision and how top practitioners are producing miraculous meals for our children each and every day.
