Care Homes and Hospices Experience

We understand how important it is for care homes to maintain their catering operations when faced with kitchen closure due to a refurbishment or emergency. Hiring a temporary kitchen enables homes to keep their catering operations in house during kitchen closure, reducing disruption to residents’ meals and providing full control of the meals served rather than having to bring in food from elsewhere.

The following page outline our care home kitchen solutions based on our experience of delivering temporary kitchen facilities to care homes and hospices throughout the country.

Specialist Care Home Design

Our temporary care home kitchens have been developed based on our experience of undertaking hundreds of kitchen hires to care homes during refurbishments. We provide a complete turnkey solution, meaning that we will take care of the full process of design, delivery and installation of your temporary facility, and will provide all maintenance once it is in operation.

PKL will come to your site, meet your catering team to discuss your requirements, and ensure that we find the best location for your temporary kitchen facility. During a site survey, we will check that all the relevant services are present to enable the correct installation and operation of the kitchen, and ensure that there is suitable access for our delivery vehicles.

Care Home Delivery

Noise and Disruption on Site

We fully understand the importance of causing minimal disruption to residents and the smooth-running of the care home. With this in mind, we can arrange to deliver our kitchens at a time that suits you, including weekends if preferred, to minimise the impact on the care home.

You will always find our drivers, installation team and engineers appropriately dressed, courteous and conducting themselves in a professional manner. The delivery and installation of our facilities is fully planned in advance by our experienced team, to ensure that the process is quick and efficient.

Our kitchen units are manufactured to the highest standard and incorporate the latest health and safety features. Kitchen features include a ventilation canopy, auto gas shut off, automatic fire-suppression system, easy clean extraction system, infestation-proof construction, 500 lux lighting level, food-safe plastisol steel wall lining, non-slip safety flooring, and insulated fire regulated wall panels, ceilings and floors.

With food-safe wipe clean walls and stainless steel catering equipment, our kitchens provide a hygienic food preparation environment and are easy to clean.

Quality and Reliability

Our kitchen units are purpose-built, high quality facilities, designed specifically for catering use, while our commercial catering equipment is well-maintained and consists of trusted, professional brands. All units and items of catering equipment undergo thorough, regular maintenance to ensure that they reach you in good working order, and are tested and certificated prior to each hire.

When residents are relying on kitchen facilities to keep them well-fed, it is important that these facilities are not going to let you down. We can supply our facilities with back-up generators with silencers to ensure that should power be lost, the kitchens can carry on running without disruption.

Contingency Planning & Emergency Response

We understand that the catering operation is a crucial part of any care home, and we have supplied a number of hire facilities to care homes to cover periods of kitchen closure due to emergencies, or when equipment has broken down and a replacement is needed as soon as possible.

This has included anything from single items of catering equipment up to entire temporary kitchens. We can also provide bespoke kitchen contingency plans free of charge, so that if you are ever faced with a kitchen emergency, you are fully prepared.
