2 Athletes Village Temporary Kitchen and Dining Facilities Supplied to Winter Games

PKL supplied two separate kitchen and dining facilities for the Athletes Villages at Vancouver and Whistler for the 2010 Winter Games.

Each kitchen and dining complex was required to feed up to 8,000 competitors, staff and officials at the Games, providing seating for 1,250 people in each facility.

PKL started work designing the two facilities in 2008 and had a permanent project team stationed in Vancouver, nine months before the Games commenced. From the early stages of the project, PKL worked closely with the organising committee to gain a clear understanding of the requirements and priorities of the project. In parallel, PKL was able to provide advice on procedures gained from supplying similar facilities at previous major sporting events and other major sporting venues.

A key to the success of the project was the ability to utilise PKL’s prefabricated Portable Kitchen modules and ship them, cost effectively and efficiently. A huge emphasis was placed on sustainability and as well as optimising catering equipment for energy efficiency all items were returned to the PKL hire fleet once the Games had finished.
