Haskins was founded in 1882 and has four garden centres in the south of England, three of which are purpose-built, with large catering facilities. The company bought an existing garden centre in Snowhil, Crawley, more than a decade ago, with plans to rebuild it to match the business’s other sites.
The company created a plan for a temporary structure to house the garden centre during the year-long build, and wanted to ensure that it maintained a catering presence. But the team were unsure what level of catering they would be able to create. The company contacted PKL following a recommendation, and invited the sales team to visit the site before the rebuild began.
PKL looked at the catering setup and suggested a temporary kitchen, with a potwash and full servery, mirroring the company’s existing setup. This fitted with the small footprint available for the kitchen alongside the planned temporary building.
Haskins was delighted with the proposal, both in terms of its potential for earnings and its similarity to its old setup, ensuring as little disruption as possible.
Ben Harrison, Catering Manager for Haskins, said: “We have been delighted with the service provided by PKL. From the delivery, when PKL brought the units down to site the night before the install to ensure there was no delay, to the quick install and the service support afterwards, we’ve been really impressed with everything PKL have provided. They’ve been fab.”
When the delivery was required, PKL needed to fit in with a tightly scheduled window, craning over the already-erected temporary structure. Haskins were reassured by the presence of a PKL project manager throughout the install, and delighted at the speed and quality of the final kitchen and potwash.
The restaurant was up and running on schedule along with the rest of the temporary site, and is nearly matching the trading of its larger, permanent, predecessor.
