Temporary Kitchen and Dining Facilities for Welsh School
Location
Secondary school in Newport
Requirement
Temporary kitchen and dining facilities for the school during the two-year construction of a new block
Duration
2 years
A large construction company with regional offices throughout the UK needed a temporary kitchen and canteen facility for a secondary school in Newport, South Wales, so they called PKL.
PKL provided temporary kitchen and dining facilities for the school during the two-year construction of a new block. The construction company wanted a simple, quick, and professional solution, and was impressed by PKL’s proposal for units that could be deployed and operational in just a few weeks from the first enquiry.
The Managing Surveyor for the construction company said: “Not personally having had experience of temporary kitchens for schools and a limited brief, PKL offered an instant solution with units that could be delivered with pre-installed commercial kitchen equipment that satisfied the needs.
“PKL developed a proposal with listed equipment that was shared with the Client and their catering provider. This provided a seamless solution to the existing school kitchen and dining facilities being out of action whilst the new scheme is being built
“The delivery to commissioning period was a number of weeks. The works were carried out during the school summer holidays and allowed the school to be delivering hot and cold school meals when the pupils returned in September. It avoided prolonged design and installation periods if a unit was built from scratch. Once the construction scheme is complete the units can be off and taken back – All boxes ticked.”
PKL worked with their client, and the on-site caterer to create a solution that worked perfectly for all concerned, with the right equipment, design flow and footprint for the site, and completed all installation and commissioning works within a few weeks, during the summer holidays, so that there was no disruption to service.
