Fifteen Months of Continuous Service From a Temporary Complex

A long refurbishment asks a different question of a temporary kitchen than an emergency does. Over fifteen months the facility has to carry every service the permanent kitchen carried, through every term and every event in the calendar, without the operation quietly reducing what it offers. The Situation

Pembroke College needed to replace its main hall, dining and storage while a refurbishment of the kitchen and dining hall was carried out. The replacement had to cover the college’s everyday feeding requirements and also Formal Hall and feasts, so the facility could not be specified for routine service alone.

What PKL Supplied

PKL supplied a fifteen unit temporary kitchen and dining complex on a fifteen month rental. The dining facility seated 120 people and the kitchen covered daily service alongside the college’s formal events. Because the units link together, the complex provided production, service, dining and storage as a single connected facility rather than as separate cabins. Installing Inside a College Site in Winter

The position available within the college grounds could not be reached by vehicle, so the complex had to be craned into place. The installation was carried out in snow, which added to the difficulty of the lift. Where vehicle access is restricted, a crane lift is a standard part of PKL’s installation options rather than an exception, and the site survey establishes which method a position requires before anything is ordered.
