Timber-clad Modular Cafe and Dining Facility
Kitebrook Preparatory School, located in Moreton-in-Marsh, Oxfordshire, is a co-educational day and boarding school for 3-13 year olds. Kitebrook is set on the ethos of children only having one childhood, and having a school experience that is unique to them allowing them to develop at their own pace in a happy and supportive environment that inspires self-confidence and a sense of independence.
With a focus on their catering provision, Kitebrook wanted a new space that could provide them with the flexibility of being used as a teaching classroom, a kitchen for their team of chefs to produce high-quality farm to fork meals, as well as a dining area for the pupil to have their lunches in, and PKL’s Modular Café and Dining facility was the perfect solution to fit all these requirements.
Utilising unused space within the school’s playground where normally their minibuses got parked, was the ideal spot for the Modular Café facility.
With a strong focus on speed and efficiency to minimise disruption to the Summer School, Kitebrook was delighted to learn that the installation and assembly on-site would only take three days.
On top of this, the projected build time was quicker than expected, allowing Kitebrook to conduct a few trial runs before the start of the term in September.
Paul Coles, Head of Operations at Kitebrook Preparatory School, commented: “It was a very smooth manoeuvre for it to come over the trees, drop into place, and have it secured to the previous modular before the next one was ready to be lifted over. It was very safe which was the thing that stood out for me, how safe the site was and the precautions that were taken”.
The new Café facility at Kitebrook has enabled the school to deliver their lunch service across three sittings. The first sitting is for the lower school, where the students have their food served to them. For the two other sittings, older pupils now go up to the servery counters with their trays, selecting their own food from a varied menu. This new initiative encourages independence among the students, a change they absolutely love.
