Sydney 2000 Olympic Games

50,000 meals per day were cooked in the world's largest temporary kitchen at the Athletes Village of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

 |
At 20,000 sqm, the kitchen and dining facilities measured the size of 3 football pitches, back to back! This represented the needs of 10,300 athletes, 5,000 team officials and over 6,000 village staff. It was constructed in 120 days and incorporated over 1,500 items of PKL catering equipment. |

We were responsible for the entire project management of this contract including the design and installation of all gas, water, waste and electrical systems. This included over 1,000 square metres of refrigeration and extraction of 1,000,000 cubic metres of air per hour.

All catering equipment was delivered, installed and maintained for the duration of the Games by PKL technical engineers. What was of particular interest to the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) was that every piece of catering equipment was shipped back to the UK at the end of the Games.
