Ventilation

PKL recognise that there are many health and safety risks from unsuitable ventilation systems and have designed a range of extraction techniques, which are not just fire safe and robust, but manufactured entirely in stainless steel for maximum hygiene. Other health and safety features of our ventilation systems are:
  • Ventilation Canopy Auto Gas Shut Off
  • Automatic Fire Suppression System
  • Gas Detection System (optional)
To ensure the safest working conditions possible for kitchen staff, we have addressed risks associated with kitchen ventilation with the following.

  • Extraction Canopies

  • Manufactured in stainless steel with easily removable grease filters for cleaning, PKL canopies run the entire length of kitchens to optimise the cooking area.

Ventilation needs to be powerful enough not just to pull fumes away from the cooking equipment and kitchen personnel, but also to vent them out of the kitchen to the outside. PKL canopies have speed controllers, which allow up to 60 air changes per hour.

Fully balanced air input systems are being introduced to our fleet of kitchens. The incoming air helps provide a better ventilated kitchen with safer, more pleasant working conditions. Low-level ventilation ducts to allow fresh air and any gas fumes to be drawn from ground level into the canopy and out of the kitchen.

Risks associated by cooking under canvas or within exhibition halls and marquees can be all but removed by the use of two new products from PKL.

  • Central Island Canopies

  • This self contained kitchen canopy system is unique to PKL and has been developed to cope with the larger style events, which are becoming increasingly popular. It includes all the health and safety features of a permanent installation including powerful extraction, fire suppression systems and auto gas shut off.

Catering equipment is installed in six metre lengths running along both sides of the canopy providing twelve metres of cooking space. The canopy can hold up to eight 24-rack combination ovens, eight 250 litre boiling pans or twelve six burner ovens and is delivered fully fitted.

With fully integrated water, gas, electricity, extraction and fire-suppression systems, these canopies provide a safe, hygienic and professional temporary catering facility.

  • Mobile Canopies

  • These new "fire safe" mobile canopies have been specifically designed for use within marquees, football stadia, conference venues and exhibition halls.

The 2.25 metre canopies come with an automatic fire-suppression system and auto gas shut off to eliminate fire risks, carbon monoxide poisoning and the release of cooking fumes and odours.

Each canopy arrives factory fitted and fully tested, can be linked to other canopies, contains equipment on castors for easy cleaning and is fitted with a ventilation pipe connected to high-powered fans situated outside.

  • Odour Control Unit

  • The expertise of PKL is not limited to Portable Kitchens and catering equipment. We have developed the Odour Control Unit that turns even the most fume laden extracted odour into fresh air with no trace of cooking smells. Tried and tested in locations as extreme as a busy spicy ethnic restaurant, this unit received the thumbs up from local Environmental Health Officers who had threatened to close the restaurant due to complaints from local residents.

Using established technology, the Odour Control Unit is a unit that attaches to the external kitchen exhaust ducts and within seconds cooking odours are removed. Suitable for exhibition halls, marquees and town centre locations where local enforcement would otherwise restrict the operations of fast food restaurants; the Odour Control Unit allows cooking anytime, anyplace.

There is no reason whatsoever why problems caused by cooking smells, excess heat build up and the risk of fire should not be adequately managed. Not only your staff, but your customers will notice the difference.
