Health and Safety Legislation

It is important that Health and Safety legislation be followed, no matter the size of the project. Whether it is the delivery of a single piece of equipment or a 200-ton crane positioning a Portable Kitchen, PKL observe all current procedures.

Health and Safety cannot be left to chance and is aggressively enforced company wide. To protect our workers we insist that they wear health and safety clothing such as hard hats, high visibility jackets, safety toe protector shoes and roof cable supports.

  • Risk Assessments

  • Where required, we provide Risk Assessment sheets for the various procedures to be undertaken such as the off loading of catering equipment and the use of bottled gas. We aim to work with your staff to ensure that Health and Safety procedures are built into the project, and not merely a last minute addition.

  • Method Statements

  • We operate in full compliance to current Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and detailed Method Statements are available on request for projects that involve a higher degree of installation.

  • Project Management

  • Before we start work on site, a full project report is agreed detailing the work programme, on-site workers from PKL and the client, site trades, special site instructions, any use of heavy lifting equipment and the responsibilities of all parties. This ensures that the project can be completed to programme.

  • Delivery to Site

  • PKL have invested in a transport fleet of 47 ton Hiab trucks which allow a safe and efficient method of off loading Portable Kitchens and catering equipment onto site. Our delivery team are required to pass the HGV Class 1 licence for articulated trucks, and all hiab operators must also pass an Approved Persons Course, which ensures that personnel are professionally trained in the safe use of cranes. In addition, we insist that our delivery team complete the industry Slinger/Banksman course. This is essential for crane operators so that straps, slings and crane weights are accurately measured.

  • Steps and Ramps

  • PKL have a standard range of modular steps and ramps, which are quick and simple to erect. Our ramps are built according to industry approved heights and gradients and are sized and strengthened according to their intended location and role. The range of steps linked to our Portable Kitchen units has non-slip boards and handrails. Alternatively you can provide these services yourselves.

  • Site Visit by PKL Safety Officer

  • During the installation of every large project, a PKL Safety Officer will inspect the site to ensure that statutory procedures are being followed. This report is given direct to the managing director. If there are any non-conformances, corrective action is implemented and controlled. We also appoint a third party organisation to carry out unannounced inspections of PKL work sites.
